How to Request Movies and TV Shows

Want to watch something that's not in our library? This guide shows you how to request it so it gets automatically downloaded and added to Jellyfin.

Quick Start

  1. Go to Jellyseerr
  2. Sign in with your family account
  3. Search for the movie or TV show you want
  4. Click "Request"
  5. Wait for it to appear in Jellyfin (usually within an hour for movies)

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Open Jellyseerr

Visit seerr.speicher.family in your browser.

2. Sign In

Use your family account to sign in. This is the same account you use for other family services.

3. Search for Content

  • Use the search bar at the top to find what you're looking for
  • You can search by movie title, TV show name, or actor name
  • Browse the "Discover" section for suggestions

4. Request It

  • Click on the movie or TV show you want
  • Click the "Request" button
  • For TV shows, you can request specific seasons or all seasons

5. Wait for Download

The request goes through our automated pipeline:

  • Movies: Usually available within 1 hour
  • TV Shows: New episodes typically appear within a few hours of airing
  • Older Content: May take longer depending on availability

6. Watch in Jellyfin

Once downloaded, you'll find it in Jellyfin ready to watch!

What Happens Behind the Scenes?

When you make a request, here's what happens automatically:

You request in Jellyseerr
        |
Sonarr (TV) or Radarr (Movies) searches for it
        |
Sabnzbd downloads it
        |
Files are organized and moved to storage
        |
Jellyfin detects and adds it to your library

You don't need to do anything - it all happens automatically!

Common Questions

How do I know when my request is ready?

Jellyseerr shows the status of your requests. You can also check Jellyfin directly - new content will appear in the "Recently Added" section.

Why isn't my request downloading?

Some content may not be available for download. This can happen with:

  • Very new releases (movies still in theaters)
  • Obscure or rare content
  • Content with limited distribution

If your request sits pending for more than 24 hours, let Matt know.

Can I request 4K content?

Yes! Our system automatically downloads the best available quality. 4K content will be available if it exists.

How many requests can I make?

There's no hard limit for family members. Just be reasonable - if you request 50 movies at once, it might take a while!

Can I cancel a request?

Yes, go to Jellyseerr, find your request, and cancel it if needed.
