How to Read Ebooks from Our Library

We have a family ebook library with almost 1,700 books! You can read them on your phone, tablet, or e-reader.

Getting Started

Access the Library

1. Go to: booklore.speicher.family
2. Click "Login with Authentik"
3. Sign in with your family account (same as other family apps)
4. Browse or search for books

Reading on Different Devices

On Your Phone or Tablet (iPhone/iPad/Android)

Option 1: Download and Read

1. Find a book in the library
2. Click the Download button
3. Choose EPUB format
4. Open with your reading app (Books app on iPhone/iPad)

Option 2: Use a Reader App with OPDS (Recommended)

1. Install a reader app:
   • iPhone/iPad: Panels, Yomu, or KyBook
   • Android: Moon+ Reader or FBReader
2. In the app, find "Add Catalog" or "OPDS"
3. Enter: https://booklore.speicher.family/opds
4. Sign in when prompted
5. Browse and download books directly in the app

On the Kobo E-Reader

The Kobo can sync directly with our library!

First-Time Setup (Dad will help):

1. Connect Kobo to computer via USB
2. Configure sync settings
3. That's it - it's ready to use!

To Get New Books:

1. Go to booklore.speicher.family on your computer
2. Find a book you want
3. Click the book's menu (three dots)
4. Click "Add to Kobo shelf"
5. On your Kobo: Go to My Books and tap the sync icon
6. Book will download to your Kobo

Note: Only EPUB books will sync (not PDFs)

On the Computer

1. Go to booklore.speicher.family
2. Click on any book
3. Click "Read" to read in the browser
4. Or click "Download" to save and read later

Finding Books

Search

• Use the search bar at the top
• Search by title, author, or keyword
• Example: "Harry Potter" or "Rowling"

Browse

• Click "All Books" to see everything
• Use filters to narrow down by author, genre, or recently added

Shelves

Books can be organized into shelves:

• "Want to Read" - Books you're planning to read
• "Currently Reading" - What you're reading now
• "Read" - Finished books
• "Kobo" - Books to sync to the Kobo

Common Questions

Can I add books I bought?

Yes! If you bought a DRM-free ebook, tell Dad and he can add it to the library for everyone.

Why doesn't my Kindle work with this?

Amazon Kindles only work with Amazon's store. Use the Kobo e-reader, read on your phone/tablet, or read in the browser instead.

The book won't open on my device

• Make sure you downloaded the EPUB version (not PDF)
• Try a different reading app
• Ask Dad for help

Tips

• Download for offline: Download books before trips when you won't have internet
• Night mode: Most reading apps have a dark mode for reading at night
• Adjust text size: Look for Aa button in your reading app
